Synthesia: The Guitar Hero Formula, Perfected.
I've always ignored the Guitar Hero, and Rock Band games. While they can be amusing for a little while, I never found them to be all that fun in the long run. Especially considering, that being a musician, I just felt like "Hey, I could probably find tabs for this online." and I'd rather go elsewhere, etc.
Synthesia is different however. It has notes, falling down. But its for piano.
Not only is it for piano, but this isn't simplified piano, like the guitars from guitar hero.
This is ACTUALLY playing the song on the Piano. As in, if you can play the song in Synthesia, you can play it on the piano. It works with MIDI instruments, so if you have a MIDI keyboard, this is for you. (I'm still looking for a good one myself.) If you lack a MIDI keyboard, I'd suggest putting off your next plastic guitar purchase, in favor of a cheap MIDI keyboard.
Also, this game runs off of MIDI music files, which are very small, and very easy to find.
If all else fails, you can find free programs to make your own MIDI files, but that's a story for another time. So you can go find your favorite old school video game theme track on the internet, in MIDI format, and jam out to it on the piano here in Synthesia.
There really are no negatives to this program. It might make you motion sick if you play it to long. (The whole, Falling notes thing can mess with you. Same in guitar hero though.)
And if you don't have a USB MIDI keyboard, then obviously jamming on your typing keyboard is not gong to be all that fun. But after all, people play guitar hero with X-Box controllers... so...
To each their own.
